Michael Warren looked down.<\/p>\n

Gray had started showing above his ears, though he still paid too much for haircuts meant to hide it.<\/p>\n
His charcoal suit fit perfectly.<\/p>\n

Anyone looking at Michael would have assumed he had somewhere important to be.<\/p>\n
The little girl apparently saw something different.<\/p>\n

Michael slowly put his phone down.<\/p>\n
She wore a red coat that looked one size too big and a tan knit hat with little cat ears on top. A pale green backpack hung from both shoulders.<\/p>\n

Emma looked toward the desk.<\/p>\n

She nodded.<\/p>\n
They started walking.<\/p>\n
Michael automatically moved at the fast pace he used in airports.<\/p>\n
Emma\u2019s arm stretched.<\/p>\n
Her feet hurried.<\/p>\n
He stopped.<\/p>\n
\u201cSorry.\u201d<\/p>\n
He slowed down.<\/p>\n
For the first time in years, Michael Warren matched his pace to someone else\u2019s.<\/p>\n
