\u201cThat doesn\u2019t make it right.\u201d<\/p>\n

His expression hardened immediately.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re behind on rent, Emily. My truck needs repairs. You\u2019ve been complaining about medical bills for months. But suddenly you want to play saint?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to do the right thing.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd I want one lucky break.\u201d<\/p>\n

The argument followed us all the way home.<\/p>\n

I was folding laundry when the front door suddenly burst open.<\/p>\n

Darren pointed silently toward the sidewalk.<\/p>\n
